I like where this is going. Great work so far!

I'm posting the latest updates to this to the Development Updates thread, because while looking at the current taken by the radio, its exposing some core bugs in the code that have been there since the beginning, when Kai wrote the initial code.

I've fixed some bugs but the more I look the more bugs I find.

I have been working on more power saving measures

An experimental version can be downloaded from here

https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... 070730.zip

There is a new setting on the Options screen for "Eco Level"

Default is level 1, which reduces current during during receive by about 1/3, from 60mA to 40mA

Level 0 is no power saving.

Maximum level is currently 10, which results in the average current reducing to 23mA, however the radio will be less responsive to detecting signals.

This is a work in progress and its likely that there will not finally be 10 levels, I only put in 10 levels, for me to test some granularity of power saving measures

That leaves more space for the contact database :-D

I'm not sure what happened.

I've uploaded the file again, and have updated the link

https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... 070730.zip

I checked and its now a 3.3Mb download. It contains GD77, DM1801,RD5R and GD77S for both normal and Japanese (_JA) versions

Hi Roger!
Yes, now the archive is full of fruits of your heavy work :-). Just flashed freshly charged GD-77, set the Eco level to 3 and will try to use it as normally, let's see... BTW the "motorboating" fix is implemented in this FW or not ? I listened to myself through the parrot and I think that the slight periodical noise produced by my radio is still there.
With regards, Pavel

The motorboating was a separate fix which I did prior to this version, so is also in this version.

The fix does not remove all motorboating, as it can still be induced by RF into the radio, but for normal use it should not be present.

NOTE.

Hotspot mode is broken in this version.

Daniel found a bug which I caused, but I am still trying to fix it.

So don't attempt to use Hotspot mode with this version

Hi Roger!
I tested the previous version (with hotspot bug, I'm currently not running a hotspot with OpenGD-77) and on Eco 3 it consumed 39% of battery after 16 hours of continuous Rx (no scanning, signal received totally about 30 minutes) and about 5 minutes of Tx on 50mW. Amazing! It was at least 60% in no-Eco version. I didn't find any disturbing effect of the Eco mode, maybe it opend a few milliseconds later than my "etalon" AT-D878UV, but I believe it was the same in the no-Eco version as well. So, many thanks and I'm going to download and check the latest version.
