Hi all and thanks for sharing this modification.
I've read all the thread, i'm gonna buy some TP5100s from Aliexpress and all the parts but i still have 2 questions:
1. what is the "correct" position for the diode? I've seen in the last schematics that it has to be in parallel with the coil, correct?
2. i use the GD-77 as a DMR scanner. After i modify the charger can i leave it plugged in the charger and turned on without wearing out or damaging the battery?

1. IMO the diode and coil is not 100% necessary, many people just use the TP5100 with no additional components
2. Probably constantly connecting the battery to the charger is not ideal, but it is not easy to find a battery eliminator for the GD77, so many people leave the radio in the charger.

I made it!
After some time and some italian blasphemities i've managed to install the TP-5100 and make it work at first try.
I've noticed that the LED does not shine so bright...

Brilliant mod , i have just ordered some TPS5100 boards from Ali...
But I have a question about TPS5100 charge current, and am not an EE.

Wasn't the original charger set for 500mA ?
Has anyone making this "mod", had issues with the batteries getting hot/bad while charging ?

It seems like that board came setup for 2A charge current, as there initially were two prarallel 0.1 ohm resisters (value R100 = 0.1 ohm)
By removing one, the charge current would be 1A.

The batteries are more than 2000mAH in most radios, so charging at 1A will still take 2 to 3 hours, and IMO would not be a problem.
Even 2A would be OK for a 2500mAH Battery.
I don't think many people change the default charge rate on these modules.

Did you remove one of the resitors for 1A charge current , or are you charging w. 2A ?

I personnaly charge @ 1A (removed 1 resistor, as you can see in that thread), for years.
