aprs how to use
Re: aprs how to use
Hello.
APRS on DMR mostly relates to 2 things:
1. Position beaconing -- this is taken care of by the APRS settings on BrandMeister selfcare. You can then define GPS coordinates on your hotspot via MMDVM.ini or through pi-star dashboard. Some radios that have GPS will pass the location information from the radio to the network (e.g. Ailunce HD1).
2. Messaging -- you can send messages between DMR and native APRS. BrandMeister Master Servers have APRS gateways.
You can do #1 via your hotspot and the BM SelfCare APRS settings. When your hotspot is connected to the network, it will beacon via APRS-IS. I recommend you set your refresh rate to 600 seconds (the max that BM settings has). Otherwise, it might flood the system. I, myself, have blocked position beacons from BrandMeister network from being gated to RF on my iGate/Digipeater because of this.
Regarding #2, unfortunately openGD77 does not support DMR messaging. The stock firmware does, though.
