TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
I'm so happy with my Retevis RT3S w/OpenGD77 I started looking at MD-9600 / RT-90 as a base station. I noticed Radioddity shows the MD-9600 as discontinued - I'm assuming I should find one while I still can?

Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
I do not believe they have been discontinued, but holiday shopping, and as you say people are hearing about OpenGD77 running on them.
There is good deal from R&L electronics in the US. A MD-9600 with a 30 amp PS included.

I just checked and the show two still left in stock.

AFIK
TYT had supply problems with the CPU ( MCU ), this time last year, and changed to a Chinese clone of the CPU chip around 12 months ago.
They don't seem to have any supply problems on the clone CPU, and have since even been able to bring out an updated MD-UV380/390 version, as the UV380/390 uses the same MCU.

Retevis has the RT90 (same as MD-9600) https://www.retevis.com/dmr-mobile-two-way-radio
Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
I now see a “Plus” version of the radio for sale with AES256 support:

The MD-9600 always had a GPS and Non-GPS version. The "Plus" version seems to come with GPS as standard
As far as we are aware there are no hardware changes to the "Plus" version of the UV380 or the MD9600 and the AES encryption function is most likely being done in the firmware, and the official "Plus" version of firmware is likely to run on the last 2 non-Plus hardware revisions
i.e The last 2 hardware revisions are labelled V4A and V5 but there does not seem to be any difference in the actual hardware
The OpenGD77 V5 MD9600 firmware works on both the boards labelled V4A and also V5 because they are the same hardware.
Also, there is some speculation that the Non-STM CPU is something to do with the AES encryption, but the Non-STM CPU actually , as far as we know, has less functionality than the official STM32 CPU.
i.e we know the non-STM chip has half the number of interrupt priorities; 8 instead of 16, hence why we had to change the firmware for the UV380 and MD9600 to only use 8 interrupt priorities.

MD9600 is made by TYT.SA0BUX wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:12 amRetevis has the RT90 (same as MD-9600) https://www.retevis.com/dmr-mobile-two-way-radio
RT90 and all other "brothers" are the same equipment being rebranded and relabeled.
Same case as TYT MD760, usually known as GD77...
Re: TYT MD-9600 discontinued?
And RT-3S is a TYT MD-UV380
