Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Do you mean the FW revision? I also have a backlight problem: I consider it too dim- the 10W version is about as bright as the 5W version at only 30% so it is hard to see in the Sun. However, before I flashed the FW from TYT OEM FW, the screen was much brighter at 100%, so the hardware of the 10W unit is capable of being brighter. That seems like that would be a fixable FW issue.

Friend, everything is up and running on my 10W TYT UV 390 plus... I love it. No color screen options???
Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
I just want to let you know what an accomplishment it means to me to be able to upload your brilliant work onto my 10W TYT 390. DMR was a HIGH learning curve for me. The feeling of accomplishment here is so satisfying, and I owe it to you... sincerely believe me,

PS I will keep looking for updates to further improve my radio. You're a genius.

Send me an email, I have a FW to test.BI1SIV wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 4:56 pmHI Daniel,
I understand now. My 10W version might have only minor modifications from the 5W version, which is why it doesn't require special firmware.
Regarding the power settings, from my understanding, the various power options are actually scaled-down proportions of the full power.
For example, the 5W setting in the normal 380 firmware represents full power, so selecting 5W on my device actually exceeds 5W.
Fortunately, my friend has equipment to roughly test the power output. We tested both the special firmware for the 390 Plus and the normal 380 firmware, and the output was between 6.5W and 7W, which is significantly different from the advertised power. Just as you mentioned, it's entirely marketing.
About the firmware, if a maximum power option could be added to the normal 380 firmware, it seems it could perfectly accommodate this type of 3x0 10W version.
Thank you again for your guidance, and I send my best wishes.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
I have a MD UV 390 10w. I flashed with recent firmware and screen is very dim even at 100%. What can I do to make it brighter? Also does it really power at 10w?
Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Some 10W versions had full screen backlight, newer versions seem to have dim screens. Someone posted saying they they thought this was some difference in the new 10W hardware. Possibly F1RMB knows what the difference is.
According to one of the TYT dealers in the USA, there are multiple different versions of the Plus and 10W radios, all of which need different factory firmware, but TYT are unwilling to tell the dealer or us about what hardware changes they hgave been making to these new radios, which makes supporting multiple "Plus" versions of hardware very difficult to support
Re: 10W
The original 10W radios only seem to be able to output 10W on a very limited frequency range. From what I can remember, people reported that on 2m (144 - 148) they could only get 8W, and on 70cm, it will only make 10W at around 450MHz, and not at the bottom of the 70cm band
IMO, I'm not sure why the power output is that low because the PCB has been redesigned withe large PA FETS.
I have an original 5W UV380 (RT-3S) and it can make nearly 8W on 2m and a good 5W on virtually all of the 70cm band, so it does not appear that the 10W radio is much higher power than the old 5W version
Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Hi,
About the screen brightness, I know nothing more than it was posted in another thread, as some new production batches use another panel model with dim backlight.
We also know that Plus 10W model have two pin swapped and some other don't. I spent some time yesterday (again) to try to identify such "non swapped" 10W ones, but it looks like that it's not possible.
So I'm testing some code to manually define is that MD-UV3x0 radio is a 5W or a 10W radio (after all, it's just a matter of displayed power levels, for the highest values).
Cheers.

Some posters implied that it was only when running the OpenGD77 firmware that the display was dim, but this may be incorrect because the official firmware is fixed colour theme and fixed intensity, so possibly loading these radios with a theme that replicates the official theme, they may look the same
Currently there is insufficient and possible inaccurate information being posted about the exact nature of this problem
